Lineup & Rotations
How Lineups Work
StatSetter uses the standard 6-position volleyball rotation system. Your lineup is a snapshot of which player is in each position at any given moment.
Position Layout
┌─── NET ───┐ │ │ IV │ III │ II ← Front row │ │ V │ VI │ I ← Back row │ │ └────────────┘Position I (right-back) is always the serving position.
Setting Up Your Lineup
- In the Track Stats view, the rotation grid shows 6 positions
- Click any empty position to assign a player from your roster
- Fill all 6 positions to complete your starting lineup
- The lineup is saved and captured with every stat you record
Rotations
When your team wins a side-out (wins the rally when the opponent was serving), click the Rotate button. Players shift one position clockwise:
| Before | After |
|---|---|
| Position I → | Position VI |
| Position II → | Position I (server) |
| Position III → | Position II |
| Position IV → | Position III |
| Position V → | Position IV |
| Position VI → | Position V |
Substitutions
To substitute a player:
- Double-click the position in the rotation grid
- Select the replacement player from the roster
- The new player takes that position immediately
Why Lineups Matter
Every stat event in StatSetter captures a lineup snapshot — a record of exactly which player was in each position when the play happened. This powers several features:
Rotation Analysis
In Statistics → Visualize, you can see:
- Success rate by rotation — which lineup positions produce the most kills, aces, and points
- Serves per rotation — how long your team stays in each rotation
- Kills by position — where your offense is strongest
Position-Based Filtering
In a future release of Stats Explorer, you can filter stats by:
- Which rotation your team was in
- Which player was in which position
- Front-row vs. back-row performance
Tips
- Set your lineup at the start of each set — lineups don’t carry over between sets
- Rotate after every side-out — even if you forget to track the point, keep rotations accurate
- Use the grid for player selection — clicking a player in the grid pre-selects them for the next stat, which is faster than using the stat buttons first
